We know that some people are not able to attend the surgery during normal working hours, so provision has been made for evening and weekend appointments.
This provision, known as an extended GP access service, offers patients greater choice about their healthcare, including pre-bookable appointments to suit them.
The extended GP access service offers patients doctor, nurse or healthcare assistant appointments for routine and non-urgent matters only.
What does extended access cover?
As well as GP and nurse consultations, the service includes provision for:
- Dressing and wound care
- Routine blood tests
- Cervical screening
- Ear irrigation
- Asthma, diabetes and contraception reviews.
Please note the extended access service is NOT for life-threatening or emergency care and it isn’t a walk in service.
Currently, for St Mary’s Surgery, extended access pre-bookable appointments are available on Monday and Thursday evenings from 6.30pm-10.00pm and on Saturday mornings from 8.30am-2.00pm.
Tell me more about extended access
The service is run by Cambridgeshire GP Network and covers a number of local hubs, so you may be booked into a surgery location that is not your normal surgery. The medical appointments are staffed by GPs and other healthcare staff from across the local area, so your appointment may not be with a clinician from this practice.
To use the service we will ask for your consent to share your medical record.
How do I book an extended access appointment?
If you are unable to visit the surgery during normal working hours or would prefer to book an out of normal hours’ appointment to suit you, please call the surgery on 01353 663434, speak to our reception team and ask for an extended hours service appointment.
They will confirm a date and time for your appointment, and advise you which surgery hub to attend.
If you cannot make your extended access appointment or need to change it, please call 0330 0130030. Please do not call St Mary’s Surgery to cancel an extended access appointment.
