St Mary’s Surgery is working with the Mayfield Clinic to provide PCR testing for people who plan to travel this year. Fit to Fly and Test to Release tests will indicate if a person has tested positive or negative for COVID-19.
The Mayfield Clinic is registered with UKAS and is on the government’s list of approved providers of COVID-19 testing.
St Mary’s Surgery is facilitating RT-PCR COVID-19 tests through the clinic. This is a private service which carries a fee but the surgery has negotiated a discounted rate for its patients. The discount is built into the booking links.
Please note PCR tests are not the same as lateral flow tests.
What is a Fit to Fly PCR?
A PCR (polymerase chain reaction) test result will tell you if you have tested positive or negative for COVID-19.
The Fit to Fly travel certificate provided to you will include your full name, date of birth, laboratory and test credentials, passport number, time and date of sample, and time and date of report.
What is a Test to Release PCR?
If you have returned from a country which requires quarantine or an isolation period, you may be able to end it early if you take a Test to Release PCR.
How do I book a PCR test?
All these tests (including antigen) are booked through and managed by the Mayfield Clinic. You do not need to be a patient registered at St Mary’s to book a PCR test through the clinic. You can book directly through the clinic website.
If you have booked a Fit to Fly PCR.
On your appointed date and time, please come into the surgery and go to reception, where you will be checked in.
If you have booked a Test to Release PCR.
On your appointed date and time, you should present yourself at the back (wooden) gate of the surgery facing the car park, ring the mobile number on the gate and a clinician will admit you and swab you for the test. Please DO NOT come into the surgery by any other door.
How do I get my test results?
You will need to register the test barcode provided to you by the clinic and you will receive emailed confirmation.
For samples taken before 4pm, results will be sent through the next working day before midnight.
Please DO NOT contact the surgery about your results.
Government advice on travelling abroad
Government advice on travel is being regularly updated. They have advised that anyone travelling should check FCO advice about entry requirements for the country they are planning to visit BEFORE they book.
The government has also provided a useful step-by-step planning list for those wishing to holiday abroad this year.
