COVID champion award for Dr Young

Last Thursday (19 May) saw the recipients of the Cambridgeshire COVID Community Champion Awards honoured at a special reception hosted by local MP, Lucy Frazer, at the Houses of Parliament.

The awards were given in recognition of outstanding service during the coronavirus pandemic, and individuals were nominated by members of the public.

Our very own Dr Katrina Young received an award as a COVID Champion for being at the forefront of the vaccination rollout in Ely and for ensuring that housebound patients across the area were given their vaccines.

Dr Young is pictured here with the surgery practice manager, Tony Davies, and other award winners Phil Priestley and his son, who were recognised for their contributions to helping disadvantaged children keep up with their schooling. They repaired and redistributed over 2,000 computers.

Dr Young said: “It was a privilege to be given this award. I do want to pay tribute to and thank all our local healthcare workers and volunteers who worked so hard during the pandemic, especially for their dedication and commitment over so many months in what were very difficult circumstances.

“I particularly want to acknowledge all the GP surgery teams from Ely North and South Primary Care Networks for their work in delivering such an extensive and well delivered COVID vaccination programme.”
