Surgery Staff Update

Posted on:

There have been some changes in the Clinical Team in February and March at the surgery and we were sad to say goodbye to a long serving member of the nursing team but it has also been a time to welcome new nurses, doctors and pharmacist.

At the start of February we were pleased to welcome our two GP registrars Dr Yen-Xuan Nguyen and Dr Aaron Punnen who will be at the surgery for a six month period from February to July to continue their GP training. We are fortunate that they both have great previous medical experience.

Dr Yen-Xuan Nguyen graduated in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) in Vietnam and started to work at Addenbrookes Hospital in 2018 in various specialties. This placement at St Mary’s Surgery is her second year of a 3 year GP training program.

Dr Aaron Punnen graduated from medical school in Bangalore, India  in 2017 and spent two and half years as a clinical fellow at Southampton General Hospital before starting GP training in  Cambridge in 2021.

At the end of February we were sad to say good bye to Practice Nurse Julia Milbank on the occasion of her retirement but she certainly deserves it, after starting her nurse training over 48 years ago and undertaking various roles within the health service over that time. Julia had some short career breaks to bring up her young family and also to care for her elderly parents. When she returned to Ely she worked firstly in elderly care at the Tower Hospital and following the closure of the Tower, Julia worked at the Princess of Wales Hospital in the Minor Injuries unit where she got her first introduction to Primary Care. Julia first started working at St Mary’s Surgery in 1998 and was a great asset to the team and developed her interests in women’s health, foot care and memory impairment and was always a kind and considerate colleague and compassionate nurse. We wish her all the best for the future.

We are pleased to welcome two new nurses to our clinical team, Lisa Bourn, bringing experience from her time working within the district nursing team and Louise King, who was previously the matron at Kings School dealing with a lot of minor illness and also has previous experience from working at Addenbrookes.

We have also had some changes within our Medicines Management Team, who will be working alongside our clinical pharmacist Vikki Marquiss and pharmacy technician Louise Cooper. We would like to welcome clinical pharmacist Alex Garner who will be working at St Mary’s Surgery on Mondays and Fridays and also medicines technician Andrea Fisher, who was previously working as a dispenser within our dispensary team. We would like to say ‘au revoir’ to clinical pharmacist Anam Baksh, who is moving to another practice within our PCN and would like to thank her for the work she has been undertaking in implementing electronic repeat dispensing which we hope will benefit our patients.
