Appointments out of normal surgery hours

We know that not all patients are able to attend the surgery during normal working hours, so there are opportunities for patients to attend the surgery during evening and weekend appointments. At St Mary’s, these are on Monday and Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings.

These appointments are known as out of hours or extended access, and are for non-urgent and routine appointments only. They are available on Monday and Thursday evenings from 6.30pm-10.00pm and on Saturdays from 8.30am-2.00pm.

As well as GP consultations, these clinics offer nurse or healthcare assistant appointments covering dressing and wound care, routine blood tests, cervical screening, ear irrigation, and asthma, diabetes and contraception reviews.

The extended access service is service is run by Cambridgeshire GP Network and, currently, the medical appointments are staffed by GPs and other healthcare staff from across the local area, so your appointment may not be with a clinician from this practice.

If an evening or weekend appointment would suit you better, you can call our Patient Services Team, who will be able to give you a date and time. To use the service we will ask for your consent to share your medical record.

Alternatively, you can request an out of hours’ appointment using askmyGP. Patients should make it clear in their online request that they wish to book an out of hours’ (evening or weekend) appointment.

Patients who cannot be seen in the extended access service:

  • those identified with a potentially life-threatening medical condition which requires referral to urgent or emergency care settings
  • walk-in patients.
